Your child's journey into coding and game development starts here!

My name is Kelly

I teach coding and game development

I teach children ages 9-13 from a beginner to an intermediate level. I can teach your child to code in the programming languages C# or JavaScript, introduce them to the game-making engine Unity, teach and guide them through the process of creating a game, and more! We will go over the fundamentals of programming by introducing the concepts using the programming language we decide on in our initial call. I will guide and help setup the necessary tools and game engine, and help your child make a game with their newfound skills! As long as your child has some experience using a computer, they're ready to begin!

The Process

I start simple, introducing your child to a text editor where they can write their code and showing them how to interact with the console. I then introduce the ability to create variables and change them, and build upon their foundational knowledge a piece at a time, going over conditionals, functions and classes. By the end, we will have created entire scripts, and even a system of scripts that work together to create a small game!I believe that learning should be fun, and I will always try to incorporate your child's specific interests into my lessons where possible.I look forward to introducing your child to the world of code, and can't wait to start that journey with them!

A student's code from their first lesson, to what making a game in Unity looks like!

Weekly Call Pricing and Schedule

The schedule is flexible and we can discuss it in the intro call. However, we aim to meet once a week for an hour on Google Meet, Zoom, or Skype. Your child will be able to ask questions and choose what project they want to make after we go over the fundamentals. This is not a fixed-length program but you can discontinue at any time. Each hourly lesson is $85. However, as I'm starting to build my own independent business, the next 2 people to sign up can get a reduced rate of $70. If my rates increase after you start, you will be grandfathered in to the original price. Because this is not with a large company, there is a lot of room to tailor the pace and direction to your child's needs.I have limited openings available for private lessons, so if you are interested please get in touch soon. My goal in the initial conversation is to help you find a way forward for your child to learn programming, whether or not working with me turns out to be the right fit.

No worries, just contact me and let me know and we can try to reschedule.

Cancellation and Refunds
If for any reason you or your child are unhappy with a call, we can refund your previous session and cancel.

What tools and technology do you use?
I like to begin with JavaScript or C# depending on preference, but either way the initial focus is on the basics. If your child already knows the basics, we can move directly into projects. If your child is interested in web development, I can also teach React.js and Ruby on Rails and help them build a webapp. For game development, we will use the Unity game engine and C# to create a game together.

Can you teach other game engines or languages?
Yes! It depends on the language and game engine you're interested in learning about, so please schedule a free call to discuss options.

Can you teach or tutor computer science topics?
No, I do not teach or tutor for computer science.

A Bit About Me!

I work as a game developer creating mobile apps, pc, and console games. My passion is programming. Once I learned how to write my own code, I found I'd much rather make games than play them! I love to share my passion and get others excited about making games. And what better way to share than by showing kids that it's possible to make their own games, too!
